Frequently asked questions

If your question is not here, ask us — and we will add the answer for the next person.

Quoting and pricing

Is the instant price the final price?

Almost always. We review every file before printing, and if the geometry changes the cost - a part that needs sectioning, a support strategy that will not survive removal, a wall thinner than a nozzle - we come back with the reason and a revised number before anything is charged or printed.

How is the price calculated?

Four components: material (grams multiplied by the cost per kilo), machine time (estimated from extruded volume and layer count), hands-on labour (support removal and handling), and a one-time setup charge per unique part. Quantity discounts then apply automatically. Nothing is hidden behind a multiplier we will not explain.

Why does the tenth part cost so much less than the first?

Because setup is charged once per part, not per piece, and because batching parts onto one bed spreads machine downtime across the whole run. That is the whole reason low volume is worth doing properly.

Can I get a discount for a bigger order?

They are already built in and applied automatically in the quoting tool. For runs past the last break in the table, email us - we have no upper limit, but a big run deserves a proper quote rather than a formula, and it is worth a conversation about whether printing is still the cheapest process for you at that volume.

Do you charge for quotes or DFM advice?

No. Instant quotes are free and unlimited. Manual quotes from CAD files are free. Design-for-manufacture feedback is free, even when the honest advice is that you should use a different process.

Files and design

What files can I upload for an instant quote?

STL only, up to 40 MB per file, in millimetres or inches. STL is the only format that can be measured reliably enough to price automatically.

What if I have a STEP, IGES, 3MF or SolidWorks file?

Send it through the contact form and we will quote it by hand within one business day at the same rates. For production work we actually prefer STEP plus a dimensioned drawing, because it tells us which features are critical.

My part is bigger than your build envelope. Now what?

We split it on a sensible seam, print the sections and bond them. Done properly on ABS the joint is close to as strong as the parent material. The quoting tool will flag the part and we will quote the sectioning manually.

Do you keep my files, and could you share them?

We store your STL to make your parts and to let you reorder without re-uploading. We never publish, resell or show your geometry to anyone outside the job, and we will delete it permanently on request. NDAs are welcome - send yours with the enquiry.

Can you reverse-engineer a part from a sample?

Yes. Send photos and key measurements, or mail us the sample. We measure and model it, then quote the run. Modelling time is quoted separately and up front, and you keep the resulting model.

Production and quality

What tolerances can you hold?

Plus or minus 0.3 mm or 0.3% of the dimension, whichever is larger. Holes print roughly 0.2 mm undersize and can be reamed to size. If a feature needs to be tighter than that, tell us which one and we will machine it as a secondary operation or tell you FDM is the wrong process.

Do you inspect parts before shipping?

Every order is counted and visually inspected. First articles on production runs are measured against your drawing, with a written report on request. If we find a defect, we reprint before it ships rather than sending it and hoping.

What happens if a part arrives wrong or broken?

Tell us within 30 days and we replace the affected pieces at our cost. If it broke in transit, we still replace it - sorting out the carrier is our problem, not yours.

Can you install threaded inserts, magnets and hardware?

Yes, all in house: heat-set brass inserts, press-fits, tapping, captive nuts, magnets, bearings, gaskets and labels. Send the hardware or let us source it.

Where is the work actually done?

Printing, finishing and assembly happen in our own shop in Toronto. Processes we do not run in house go to vetted partners, locally where speed and oversight matter and overseas where cost is the deciding factor. All final assembly is done in Canada.

Lead times and shipping

How fast can you turn parts around?

Standard is 5 business days. Expedited is 3 days, and rush is next business day subject to capacity. Economy at 10 days is cheaper if you are not in a hurry. Lead time is counted from design sign-off, not from when you upload.

When does the clock start?

When your files are approved and your payment has cleared. If we have a question about your part, the clock pauses until it is answered - which is why we ask quickly.

Do you ship outside Canada?

We ship across Canada and to the United States as standard. Elsewhere, ask and we will price it. Duties and import taxes outside Canada are the recipient's responsibility.

Can I pick up in Toronto?

Yes, by appointment, and there is no shipping charge. We will let you know when the parts are ready and agree a time.

Payment and terms

How can I pay?

Credit or debit card - Visa, Mastercard or American Express, in Canadian dollars. Card details are entered on our payment provider's secure form and never touch this website. We do not take e-transfers, cheques or purchase orders.

Do you need payment up front?

Yes. Orders are paid in full when you place them, and production is scheduled once payment clears. It keeps our prices where they are - chasing invoices is a cost that would otherwise end up in your quote.

Can I cancel or change an order?

Before printing starts, yes - full refund, no questions. Once a job is on the machine we can usually still change quantity upward, but material already extruded has to be paid for. Just ask as early as you can.

Do you charge tax?

HST at 13% is added at checkout for Canadian orders. If you are exempt or ordering from outside Canada, contact us before ordering and we will sort the paperwork.

Still stuck?

A person reads every message and replies within one business day. Tell us what the part has to do and we will tell you whether we are the right shop for it.
